Today, Meghan and Trevor are both happily married. It turns out that the former husband of the Suits star has a staggering net worth, and what he does for work might surprise you.
Not much is really known about Trevor’s life. But, just days ago, a friend of his stepped forward, revealing new things about what happened – and how Trevor got his “revenge” on the Duchess.
While at the beginning of what was to be a successful acting career, Meghan met her first husband, Trevor Engelson. According to IMDb, he was born on October 23, 1976, in Great Neck, Long Island, New York, and attended the University of Southern California’s School of Communications.
Who is Meghan Markle’s ex-husband Trevor Engelson?
Engelson started as a production assistant in the film business but worked his way up to become a film producer. He’s worked on many projects, including the 2010 film Remember Me, starring Robert Pattinson. His then-girlfriend Meghan Markle had a cameo in his movie early on in her acting career.
Moreover, Engelson has been involved in productions such as License to Wed and All About Steve, and has even acted as executive producer on six episodes of the Heathers television remake. In later years, however, Engelson has had great success with the FX television series Snowfall, which had its sixth and last season earlier this year. It was released on his own management and production company, Underground, with its headquarters in Beverly Hills, California.
According to Grazia, the 45-year-old manages screenwriters, novelists, actors, and film directors in Los Angeles when not on set working with films and television shows.
So, how did Trevor and Meghan Markle meet? According to The Sun, they crossed paths for the first time in 2004. The couple dated for about seven years before marrying in September 2011. Their wedding took place at the Jamaica Inn in Ocho Rios in Jamaica and lasted for three days.
According to The Sun, the couple arranged for around 100 guests to attend parties, drinking games at the beach, brunches, and even a wheelbarrow race. The ceremony? Well, that only took 15 minutes.
As mentioned, Meghan was one of the briefcase models on the game show Deal or No Deal. However, according to the author Andrew Morton’s book Meghan: A Hollywood Princess, Trevor wasn’t too keen on seeing her while she was on set.
Trevor Engelson was ‘to busy’ to visit his wife
According to Morton (via Express), Engelson didn’t visit her as other husbands or friends of the models did, which was “unusual.” Apparently, this was because he was occupied with his work as a producer and even skipped out on traveling with Meghan during her downtime because of it.
“They were driven individuals, Trevor was busy, if not more so than his girlfriend,” royal biographer Andrew Morton wrote in Meghan: A Hollywood Princess.
“It was also noticeable that, unlike the boyfriends and husbands of her Deal or No Deal sisters, Trevor never visited Meghan on set.
“It was so unusual that his absence was commented on by the other girls. However, there were plenty of other celebrities, mainly sports stars, who dropped by, some clearly trying to get up close and personal with the girls,” he added.
In 2011, the same year Meghan and Trevor married, Meghan Markle debuted on the television series Suits. It was an instant success, and not long after, she moved to Toronto as the show was mainly filmed there.
Meghan landed the role just months before she married Trevor, and having to take a five-hour flight to see each other became an obstacle for married life. They stayed connected through video calls, but it didn’t solve the challenging situation.
“Whether she wanted to admit it to herself or not, Meghan who once said she couldn’t imagine life without Trevor by her side, was now building a new world for herself,” Andrew Morton wrote in Meghan: A Hollywood Princess.
Meghan Markle allegedly posted her wedding ring to Trevor Engelson
“As Toronto was becoming more her home than LA, the dynamics in their relationship subtly altered.”
Markle stayed on Suits for more than 100 episodes until 2018. But by 2013, she and Trevor Engelson had divorced. The couple cited “irreconcilable differences” at the time.
At a later stage, Markle’s half-brother Thomas told Express that Trevor “worshipped the ground she walked on.”
“Trevor was devastated at the split,” an insider told The Sun in 2017.
“She suddenly had no more time for him. Meghan broke Trevor’s heart, pure and simple. He is still in love with her and so the revelation of her new relationship with Harry has hit him hard.”
Royal biographer Andrew Morton suggested that the split shocked Trevor – and that Meghan even posted her engagement and wedding rings to him as a sign that their marriage had ended.
“As Toronto was becoming more her home than LA, the dynamics in their relationship subtly altered. She was her own woman now, earning a steady income, making new friends on set and off, no longer dependent on her husband’s connections.”
Separated in 2013
Indeed, the spit between Meghan and Trevor seems to have been quite dramatic. Meghan’s former childhood friend Nikki Priddy and author Lady Colin Campbell seem to think so, in any case.
In the book Meghan and Harry: The Real Story, Campbell wrote that after moving to Toronto, Meghan began hanging out with celebrities, including celebrity stylist Jesica Mulroney.
It led the former Suits star to distance herself from her then-husband.
“Trevor had always been laidback where she was controlled and controlling,” Lady Colin Campbell wrote.
“He would arrive for appointments slightly late and disheveled, his shirt out of his trousers and maybe a spot of food on his lapel, while the perfectly contained and self-possessed Meghan was always immaculately turned out.”
Meghan Markle and Trevor Engelson went their separate ways in 2013. So what happened after that? We know what Meghan went on to do, but for Trevor, even though he still is in the spotlight as a well-known producer, he didn’t appear in any interviews or made headlines.
After splitting from Meghan, Trevor dated Bethenny Frenkel, known from Real Housewives of New York.
In an interview with the Australia Kyle and Jackie O Show in April 2018, she revealed that they were dating – and knew about his history with Meghan.
“I met him in Chicago, and we were supposed to go out, and I ended up seeing him one time, and he’d been texting me. He’s a producer in LA. He told me that he was married before, he’s divorced [now]. He was married to this girl named Meghan Markle from the TV show Suits.”
This is Trevor Engelson today – wife, children
“We bypassed the romantics and went into the business,” she added. “But I don’t know there’s something there. There’s something salacious about doing a TV project with Meghan Markle’s ex.”
Even though it had been some years since he and Meghan split, something appeared still present. In 2017, Fox reported that Engelson was to be a co-producer on a show about a man who must share custody of his child – after his ex-wife married a British prince.
The second part seems quite familiar, right? According to Deadline at the time, “the lead characters are not based on Markle or Engelson.” Until this day, the show has not gotten past any pilot viewing.
Engelson and Frankel didn’t last. However, not long after, Meghan’s ex-husband found the love of his life.
Four years after splitting from Meghan, he began dating Tracey Kurland. The couple tied the knot on May 11, 2019 – a little more than a year after Harry and Meghan’s grand wedding at St George’s Chapel.
Although Harry and Meghan have earned themselves a lot of money through their Netflix deal and the inheritance from Harry’s mother and Meghan’s previous jobs, the Duchess isn’t anywhere close to how much Trevor and his wife have in the bank.
Tracey Kurland’s father made around $500 million in the mortgage industry. Sadly, he passed away in 2021. At the time, reports suggested that Tracey inherited around $250 million.
Meghan crushed him when she demanded a divorce, friend says
Since tying the knot, the couple have welcomed two daughters: Ford Grace Engelson, born in August 2020, and Sienna Lee Engelson, born in November 2021.
The way Meghan and Trevor’s marriage ended was., of course, not what any of them wanted. They have never really spoken about what happened. However, a friend of Trevor, who’s chosen to be anonymous, now reveals that Meghan’s former husband was absolutely devastated afterward.
However, today, the friend says, he has gotten his “revenge:”
“For a long time, things were difficult for Trevor. He’s a good guy, but Meghan crushed him when she demanded a divorce. When she took up with Prince Harry, he was crushed all over again because he was constantly reminded of her because of the publicity around the marriage and then the drama of the Oprah interview. But that’s all in the past now,” the friend told the Daily Mail.
“When I saw him recently, he kept going on about how he’s the happiest he’s ever been, how he loves being a dad, and how he’s never felt more fulfilled.”
Engelson’s friend added, “Everyone in Trevor’s life knows not to mention the ‘M’ word. He’s moved on and, in some ways, you could say he’s having an even better life than Meghan. He probably has more money than she does now; he’s doing what he loves, and he’s out of the spotlight. It’s the ultimate revenge.”
According to the Daily Mail, Trevor Engelson and his wife live in a “wealthy” Los Angeles neighborhood. He is said to “adore” his wife and children, and when he’s with them, he “never stops smiling,” his friend told the news outlet.
